Resurgence of a deadly disease
Article Abstract:
The malaria causing anopheles mosquito is present and multiplying in the US, creating a growing threat of the disease here. The US government is doing little about this, despite the threat of mini-epidemics all over the country. The ineffectiveness of drugs against some strains increases the problem.

An element of doubt: disinterested research casts doubt on claims that lead poisoning from paint is widespread among American children
Article Abstract:
Federal and state authorities are adopting measures to prevent low-level lead poisoning in children even though research does not prove that low levels are harmful. Focusing lead abatement programs on inner-city areas where lead poisoning risks are higher would be more effective.

Could Mad Cow Disease Happen Here?
Article Abstract:
Despite the lessons learned since the outbreak of Mad Cow disease in the United Kingdom, the American meat industry has not taken precautions to insure the safety of the beef supply against the disease. Not even feeding of brain and spinal tissue to cattle has been stopped.
