Labor Party opposition leader for prime minister Kim Beazley has been campaigning vigorously in an effort to boost his sluggish campaign. Reading speeches from teleprompters in front of handpicked crowds of Labor Party members while never once delivering those same speeches to ordinary Australians has made for a very sterilized campaign.

Australians have for a long time shown antipathy towards changing governments, and John would have history on his side in election 2004. On, March 2, 1996 Howard's coalition had gained a two-party preferred vote, which surpassed since the war only by Holt, Fraser and Menzies.

Thirty-four members of the ninety-two member Labor caucus have demanded a replacement of Simon Crean by two-time loser Kim Beazley. The whole experience has made Simon Crean a tough determined character who can survive the worst his enemies can throw at him.
