Rotors and gears for tiny robots: micro motors
Article Abstract:
The robotics industry will see the development of micro motors in the 1990s. The size of motors are shrinking rapidly, and metallic gears so small that several can rest on the head of a pin have already been created. Rotors are being developed for measuring blood flow, and researchers have made a tiny biomedical sensor that is composed of four blades, each 300 micrometers wide, which allows doctors and scientists to measure the blood flow in coronary arteries. The industry is creating sensors that are far more reliable, accurate and cheaper than sensors manufactured in the past, and they are potentially a thousand times smaller than traditional devices.
