GM considers switch to modular assembly lines

General Motors Corp is planning to implement modular assembly lines type of operation for its small car manufacturing operations. The concept is expected to give the automaker, improved and quality small cars like the Pontiac and Chevrolets, cut costs and increase the value of the products. The plan calls for the assembly of pre-built modules or parts of a vehicle instead of bolting different parts in forming a car. New modular assembly lines and manufacturing facilities are expected to be constructed in the coming decade.

Ford snatches up BMW's sales chief
Article Abstract:
Ford Motor Co has recruited Victor Doolan to become its marketing head for its luxury-car operations. Doolan was the sales chief of BMW of North America Inc. The top level executive changes has upset the prevailing trend in the automobile industry, wherein executives are inclined to stay with their companies for a long time. The new willingness of automobile sales executives to switch their allegiances is a reflection of the industry's willingness to pay for services of top performers.
