Secrets of teh cave's art
Article Abstract:
Jean Clottes, science adviser to France's Ministry of Cultures won permission to explore the social structure, mind-sets and spiritual beliefs of the artists of the Grotte Chavet, the oldest known cave rock paintings in the world. The 32,000 year-old etchings and paintings of lions, bison and bears symbolize danger, strength and power. The spiritual role of the cave include two large public triangles, thought to be symbols of fertility and a creature with human legs and the head and torso of a bison.
