Simon and Schuster joins others with e-book plans

Article Abstract:

Book publisher Simon and Schustr has announced plans to offer a list of original electronic books in fall 2000. Consumers will be able to download the electronic books or e-books at the World Wide Web sites of online retailers such as Barnesandnoble.com. They can read the books on their computer screens using Microsoft Reader or Glassbook software, or an eBook or Softbook device or personal digital assistants. Simon and Schuster's announcement follows similar news in Jul 2000 from Random House and Time Warner's iPublish.

Intel-Broadcom patent fight spatters chip stocks

Article Abstract:

Intel Corp of Santa Clara, CA, has accused Broadcom Inc of Irvine, CA, of patent infringement. Intel, which filed a lawsuit in US District Court in Delaware on Aug 30, 2000, has accused the communications-chip maker of trying to build its business using Intel technology. Intel has accused its rival of infringing on as many as five patents in three major areas. These include decompression software and video compression technology, chip packaging and chip design.
