Several systems integration companies are actually organized groups of smaller companies that have banded together to offer specialized help around the the US. The Asset Group, formed in 1991, is made up of six small companies and organizes microcomputer connectivity within organizations. The $14 billion market now has two types of systems integrators: large companies and bands of smaller firms. Electronic Data Systems, IBM and Andersen Consulting are examples of the larger companies. Systems integration consortia are often made up of retailers, consultants and resellers. The first group to organize a consortium was U S Connect, based in New York, which now has 23 members. Smaller companies can remain independent and do not have to worry about surviving or acquisitions.
