Staking your claim
Article Abstract:
Australian insurance companies established the General Insurance Claims Review Panel Scheme in 1991 to decide claims brought by customers. Critics such as the Institute of Public Loss Assessors and the Consumers' Associations believe most policyholders are not getting a fair judgment from the review panel. Advocates argue the panel has made insurance companies more responsible, professional, and requires them to explain why customer claims are being contested.
