Catholic Church in the U.S
Article Abstract:
The Catholic Church in the US is losing members and facing a shortage of priests and nuns. Nearly 25% of all Americans are Catholic, and the church is a leading provider of social services in the country. Hard line stances against abortion and the small role women are allowed to play within the church are leading many to question the contemporary relevance of Catholicism. The history of the church in the US and the growing pressures it is facing are discussed.

Student activism
Article Abstract:
Student activists in the 1960s marched for civil rights and to end the Vietnam war. However, in the 1990s, students complain the media is no longer interested in organized protests. They argue that issues such as affirmative action, police brutality, racial discrimination, income inequality, and environmental degradation need to be addressed, but others believe few students in the 1990s are interested in politics and less likely to participate in mass marches.

Hispanic-Americans' new clout
Article Abstract:
Latino culture and American society will continue to have an interactive relationship due to influential factors on boths sides. Latinos have higher rates of intermarriage between themselves and other Americans, creating cross-exchanges. Latinos also retain more of their customs, such as language and traditional behaviors. Some observers, however, caution against ethnic separatism, favoring assimilation instead.
