TO CONSERVE GAS, PRESIDENT CALLS FOR LESS DRIVING

As a result of the hurricanes on the Gulf Coast, and rising oil prices, American households will see their energy costs go up about $500 from a year ago, and more than $900 since 2003. For the first time George W. Bush is advocating energy conservation, by asking Americans to drive less.

Strong Demand Limits OPEC's Leeway

Representatives from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries have said that they are prepared to lift production quotas in an effort to bring down prices, but that their decision may not have much effect because the worldwide demand for oil continues to grow.
