Telus' new motto: Dial M for merger
Article Abstract:
Telus Corp. is looking to seal a deal to merger with BC Telecom Inc. after its merger talks with AT&T Canada Long Distance Services Co. collapsed. No agreement has been reached yet, but Telus' intent is sending a jolt to Canada's telecommunications industry. The proposed consolidation between Edmonton, Alberta-based Telus and Burnaby, BC-based BC Telecom would form a combined entity that will have a work force of 25,000 and C$4.8 billion in yearly revenues. Telus CEO George Petty is intent on merging with BC Telecom in order to establish a Western Canadian telecommunications giant, which analysts forecasts, will probably precipitate a frenzy of mergers and partnerships as telecommunications players aim to stay competitive.
