The Mouse that whimpered

Article Abstract:

Disneys's retail stores have posted a $34-million decline in sales for the first nine months of 1999, compared to th year-ago period. The company's 714 premium-price retail stores have been losing their market share as consumers turn to discount retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kmart and Target where Disney-licensed merchandise made by main-licensee Mattel are selling at lower prices. The downtrend has been attributed to the large number of Disney stores and to increased competition from other premium-price retail stores.
