The modern emphasis on drug-free pregnancy artificially separates culture and nature. No one living in Western culture has a "natural" body, since there is ready access to many substances that make pain bearable, heal illness quickly, and restore the body through surgery. The age of 50 is increasingly regarded as early middle-aged, and technology has profound impact on our bodies.
