Canadian health ministers reportedly had a heated discussion on Jan 14, 1997, about whether or not to let the Canadian Red Cross Society continue to collect blood for another three years. Some ministers want to halt the Red Cross's involvement, due to its links with the tainted blood scandal.

'Tis the season: winter brings a harsh dose of the flu

Canadian health authorities say that a strain of influenza A called Wuhan flu has hit several regions of the country and is particularly widespread in southern Ontario. Flu shots give about a 70% immunity rate, but once a person comes down with the flu there is little doctors can do.
