Mobile phone companies have spent large amounts of money for acquiring third generation mobile telephone licenses and setting up their networks. At a time, when the majority of the operators are reporting losses, the low pricing strategy declared by one of the companies has surprised the competitors, as it will be very difficult for all the companies to recover the losses and make profits.

Ziggy Switkowski, the chief executive director of Telstra was sealed after he renewed his position in 2003 and his reappointment was the subject of strong board scrutiny. Telstra was perceived as an over-managed company because of which Switkowski's career was pacing trouble.
