The witch's brew: a political murder mystery deepens over a planted corpse

Article Abstract:

Francisca Zetina Chavez, a psychic known as La Paca, led police to an unmarked grave, and claimed that the body was Manuel Munoz Rocha, a man reportedly killed by former Mexican official Raul Salinas de Gortari. Now there is some evidence that the psychic may have been trying to frame Salinas.

The foreign diplomats say that Laurent Kabila has made a serious political error in forming a ruling cabinet for the Democratic Republic of Congo but excluding opposition leader Etienne Tshsiskedi. The snub provoked street demonstration sin the former Zaire, and raised questions about Kabila.

Hostage to terror: the crisis enters a new, more perilous phase

Tupac Amaru rebels demand the release of Victor Polay, the founder of the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement, and 400 other Tupak Amaru rebels held in Peru's prisons. The rebels threaten to kill the 74 hostages they have held in Lima since Dec 17, 1996, if their demands are not met.
