Former communists in Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Lithuania and the former Yugoslavia are ascending again politically. Many of the citizens of these countries have suffered economically since the downfall of communism and miss the advantages of the welfare state.

There is a legitimate threat that the world will run out of natural oil supplies in the future. What is possibly the world's last large oil reserve lies in and around the Caspian Sea. World powers will have to work together to decide how this reserve will be accessed.
