Jacques Chirac won the French presidency over Lionel Jospin on May 7, 1995. Not much is known of his personal life, despite a political career spanning almost 30 years. Chirac will be challenged by the decisions he makes regarding nuclear testing and involvement in the former Yugoslavia.
