Trigger happy

Article Abstract:

A Victorian Supreme Court jury accepted alleged gang boss Mick Gatto's testimony that he killed suspected hitman Andrew Veniamin in self-defence. The forensic evidence supported the theory that Veniamin and Gatto had struggled over a gun in La Porcella restaurant in March 2004 and led to his acquittal, however, Victorian police are still concerned that some one may step up to claim a $400,000 contract on the life of the 'Carlton leader'.

Speed kills-again

Article Abstract:

Three more Melbourne killings only underscore the inability of police to stop or solve the drug violence. The murders of a police informer and his wife took the death toll to 27 and although the Purana Taskforce has information regarding the killings, it does not amount to evidence and this may discourage others contemplating their civic duty.

Plane dealing

Article Abstract:

Smuggling is the easiest part of the drug business in Australia as the international borders of Australia are regarded as porous, and the state boundaries irrelevant. Domestic-security in Australia is almost non-existent, allowing the free movement of drugs around the country in huge volumes.
