HONG KONG: RAILS FACE QUESTIONS FROM LEGISLATORS
Article Abstract:
Legislators did not support the proposed construction of two railway extensions in Ma On Shan and Tsim Sha Tsui. The first rail, which costs HK$ 342mn, is a subway and footbridge in Ma On Shan. The second rail is a HK$ 1.15bn extension to link the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corp.'s Tsim Sha Tsui terminus and the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) station. Some legislators believe the rail would damage nearby buildings, possibly cause underground flooding and other environmental problems. Some say that an environmental assessment report should be conducted first.
