HONG KONG: SWITCHING FIXED-LINE PHONE SERVICES

A legislator has urged 2.1mn fixed-line phone service subscribers of Pacific Century CyberWorks (PCCW) to use mobile phones at home or change their fixed-line phone service providers since PCCW will raise its phone fees by 22.2% to HK$ 110 each month. The Consumer Council has urged the government to keep the local fixed-line phone service market more competitive. PCCW is holding a 95% share in the local fixed-line phone service market at present.

CHINA: ONLINE PORTAL DEBUTED BY MINISTRY
Article Abstract:
On 23 December 2000, the Ministry of Information Industry of China (MII) has inaugurated online portal, www.cnaz.com (Chinese Network A to Z) in China. The portal will provide survey result and rating report of Chinese language-based Internet content providers worldwide. The ratings and survey will be conducted by the ministry on a yearly basis.
