Imasco head gears up for final battle

Imasco Ltd CEO Purdy Crawford is expected to press London, UK-based British American Tobacco PLC (BAT) to increase its C$9-billion offer for the remaining 58% which BAT does not yet own at Montreal, Canada-based Imasco. Aside from Imperial Tobacco Ltd, Imasco owns Shoppers Drug Mart Ltd, Canada Trust, Genstar Development Co. BAT's bid is a way for the British firm to take full ownership of Imperial Tobacco, Canada's cigarette maker with a 69% market share.

Metro scoops up 41 Loeb stores from Loblaw
Article Abstract:
Metro-Richelieu Inc, a Montreal, Quebec-based grocery chain, has bought 41 of 92 Loeb stores in Ontario from Toronto, Ontario-based Loblaw Cos Ltd for C$125 million. The acquisition immediately gives Metro a presence in the lucrative Ontario grocery market. The deal also further tightens the race between Metro and Canada Safeway Ltd for third spot, behind Loblaw and Stellarton, Nova Scotia-based Empire Co Ltd.
