U.S. firm to liquidate Eaton's
Article Abstract:
The Ontario Superior Court has approved an insolvency program for the sale of all merchandise of T Eaton Company Ltd. The inability to continue funding continuous operations made the Canadian retailer hire Gordon Brothers Retail Partners LLC to liquidate store merchandise. Retail Funding Inc assumed Eaton's $189.6 million debt, including an initial $100 million to finance store operations prior to closure on Nov 30, 1999.

BCSC hearing on Eron Mortgage collapse under way
Article Abstract:
The British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) has started the hearing on the collapse of Eron Mortgage Corp. of Vancouver. BCSC aims to determine whether president and founder Brian Slobogian and vice-president Frank Biller committed securities violations. The mortgage brokerage was suspended by the province's Financial Institutions Commission in 1997 after raising C$200 million-C$500 million from lenders.
