The popularity of the Harry Potter books is known to almost everyone worldwide. Yet, in the computer game industry, the new role playing game, Diablo II, has sold almost a million copies and it has received almost no recognition. The game was marketed focusing on only the most serious-minded game players, yet the new title has been a huge hit worldwide, if not in the media, by word of mouth.

It's a Word world, or is it?

Microsoft Word has a better than 95% share of the desktop word processing market. Its closest rival is Corel WordPerfect 9.0, used by many law offices in the U.S. Still, that means there are 22 mil users of WordPerfect in the U.S. and Canada, by one research firm's reckoning. WordPerfect is designed to interact with Word documents seamless, which it does. Though occasionally WordPerfect can't open other Windows-format documents, so users are cautioned to have Word as well. WordPerfect's interface is simple and fully customizable. It's Reveal Codes function is more robust than Word's. The stand alone version of Word sells for $275. WordPerfect is sold in an Office Suite with spreadsheet, presentation and other applications for $90.

Software to track customers' needs helped firms react
Article Abstract:
After the Sep. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, many companies were able to contact clients whose systems were destroyed in the WTC by virtue of using customer relationship management (C.R.M.) software. Siebel Systems Inc. is the mraket leader in C.R.M. software. Within hours of the attacks, many companies using the software were able to set up emergency shipping plans and new equipment orders for clients affected by the attacks.
