Will the generation entering the work force today have a lower standard of living over their lifetime than their parents enjoyed?
Article Abstract:
There is growing debate over the standard of living of the generation entering the work force today. Some claim they will be less well-off than their parents. Since 1973, the median real income has fallen 30% and the poverty rate of under-30-years-old households has doubled. All of this has occurred while legislators changed tax and benefit laws to help the old, at the expense of the young. Others claim that the standard of living will increase. They point out that the standard of living today is infinitely higher than the pre-war years, and even a sluggish economy will result in standard of living gains.
