A new superannuation tax-saving superannuation strategy being pushed by Navigator Australia, a subsidiary of the giant Aviva financial group, focuses on deferring contributions tax for up to 15 months. The strategy can generate particularly attractive gains for anyone rolling over a taxable redundancy payment but the main uncertainty is whether the arrangement will pass the scrutiny of the Tax Office.

The growing popularity of self-managed superannuation funds in Australia triggered an unexpected but valuable drop in set-up costs. However, people trying self-managed funds must check that the cost provides a basic trust deed and tax office registration documentation, together with a resolution to establish the fund, membership application forms and notice of consent to act as trustee.
