Corporate public relations firms in Australia are trying to improve their poor relations with the media, who consider public relations professionals inefficient and uncooperative sources of information. The public relations industry got a boost in prestige in 1998 when the country's first professor of public relations was appointed, but negative stories of public relations firms distorting facts and withholding information from the press are common.
