Yankees Lose Part of Their Core As Pettitte Signs With Houston

The New York Yankees allowed one of its most successful pitchers, Andy Pettitte, to leave for the Houston Astros and end a highly accomplished engagement with the team for nine years. Pettitte accepted a three-year, $31.5 million contract. The pull of returning to his home town plus the Yankees' weak interest in retaining him seemed to have influenced his decision to sign with Houston.
