Confusion vs simplicity
Article Abstract:
The managed funds industry is working with the Australian tax office and other government authorities to develop a standardized format for annual tax statements sent to unit trust investors by fund managers, the goal being to make it easier to complete tax returns. Complex legislation in the capital gains tax (CGT) area has made it difficult for fund managers and investors, but this situation is expected to improve. Statements from four of the largest retail fund managers are considered.
