Australian investors enjoyed very good returns from investing in managed funds of European stocks in 1997 and more upside is still there. Globally, continental Europe is the only region with stable interest rate outlook and rising corporate profits and equities are benefiting from changing attitudes of investors as well, as Europeans discover investing in stocks according to Brendan Irwin, strategist, van Eyk Research Ltd. He does advise caution for investors looking for the best returns. The currency of Australia lost value, however, in the 12 months before 9/98; that caused offshore rates of return that will not recur.

The Coalition's tax before package has its benefits and costs. Investors are cautioned to be aware of what reforms the Senate will pass.
