Credit-reporting legislation, effective Sep 30, 1997, makes it easier to acquire a copy of one's credit history report. Welfare recipients, the unemployed, and credit fraud victims are eligible to receive a free copy of the report. Those denied credit can also receive a free copy after 60 days.
