Minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass surgery for selected patients has simplified heart bypass operations and reduced the length of time in the hospital. Unlike the traditional bypass, which involves opening the chest, the procedure begins with only a three-inch incision.

The irradiation debate: the food industry looks at a controversial process

Food radiation helps to protect humans from foodborne illnesses. There 6.5 million cases reported annually from which 9,000 deaths occur. Food is placed in a chamber and exposed to gamma rays that kill bacteria. The rays do not make food radioactive.
