The gap between the funds' official returns and the returns earned by the typical investor are examined in order to help the investors from making mistakes while investing in mutual funds or stocks. Some guidelines that help avoiding mistakes that produce poor results from good funds are using the benchmarks, looking for lower-risk funds within a category, and creating a plan for staying diversified.
