RBA's watching brief on US rates

The Federal Reserve Board is expected to raise interest rates, whereas the Reserve Bank Governor, Ian Macfarlane, has raised rates twice to 5.25% in six months. RBA expects a further decline in both housing prices and housing finance and coupled with this, a hike in American rates made the global markets shudder and led the Chinese Government to slow down its economy.

The chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve Board (the Fed) has made it clear that the Fed will do whatever it takes to prevent the U.S. economy from deflation and the inflationary consequences. The measures are being adopted by the Fed to fight deflation.
