Article Abstract:
Innovations in the financial markets during the 1980's such as mergers and acquisitions, allowance of interest-bearing checking accounts, creation of money market deposit accounts and the expanding use of automated teller machines did not usher in substantive changes in household banking practices. Households still obtain their financial services from the local commercial banks which present products and services suitable to the public's needs.
