Underperformance triggers soul searching
Article Abstract:
Underperformance has triggered questions about pulling out their money in investors in BT Funds, the high-profile risk-taking powerhouse of the retail equity funds business of Australia. The managers have recently underperformed, despite many very good calls in the years since 1986. The new chief investment officer, Gary Symons, expected the company to bounce back strongly in the 18 months after 3/01. New risk-control measures are to be in place to limit the scary slides in the future. Parameters in which fund managers will work will be changed. A US investment group will do an annual audit to combat criticism that the company is too inward-focused. Pulling money out would be unwise, given that a long-term horizon is to be the rule.

Article Abstract:
The United States stock picking system known as Dogs of the Dow works well on the Australian stock market too. The technique involves buying stock in companies that offer the highest dividend yield, selling them when their dividend drops and buying new high dividend stock.
