The First Home Builders Grant in Australia is considered to be the salvation of the economy by some and a short-sighted pork barrel approach by others. Some cautions are offered. Few people have so far gotten the approval for the grant; it may be difficult.

Why buy when you can invest?

Article Abstract:

A young couple with one child chooses to not buy a house in order to keep investing and building wealth for their family in shares (stocks) and managed funds. They also share a portfolio with another couple. They discuss it each month, having started it in early 1999. The couople has used margin to increase wealth. Both invested in the Future Leaders fund when they were young.

Warning on land bank scheme: Buying a piece of the English countryside may prove a disappointing experience for Australian investors

Article Abstract:

Real estate consumer advocate Neil Jenman has given a warning about the European Land Sales Partnership (ELSP) property investment scheme in Britain that is directed at Australian investors as the promoters' land bank includes 3.4 hectares that ELSP has divided into 150 plots. The trouble shown is that the land is not agricultural land, and not zoned for residential use.
