Article Abstract:
The Families and Work Institute has conducted a survey that shows employees have increased their weekly work hours from an average of 43.6 to 47.1 over the past 20 years. Part of the problem has to do with economic pressures they face to maintain better lifestyles than those of previous generations. Finding enough personal time has replaced money as the greatest lifestyle challenge that working people face.

The new millennium may bring respect and recognition for America's underappreciated and overwrought workers. Responses to Modern Maturity's questionnaire indicate that more than half of those responding got more satisfaction from work done late in their careers. Knowledge of the job was the worker's greatest asset.
