Acceptable practices
Article Abstract:
Results of a survey conducted by Equifax concerning acceptable practices by utility firms are presented. Almost all respondents believed that utility firms are completely right when they collect past debts from consumers upon their application for service. Another quite acceptable practice was the background check on consumer identities and financial capability. A lesser number but still constituting a majority approved of the practice of reporting a delinquent payer to a credit bureau.

Edison Electronic Institute's 1998 'National Business Customer Monitor' showed that small business customers are satisfied with their electric utilities. Many give top marks to the products and services of utilities as well as their performance. Small business customers are also similar to residential customers in that they admire a company's community stewardship programs and demand more products and services.
