Article Abstract:
Electric utilities produced 1,896,957 million kwh of electricity from fossil fuels in 1991. Nuclear power generated amounted to 612,309 kwh and showed a 7.2% increase from 1991. Oil accounted for 5.7% of the electricity produced from fossil fuels but had a 5.1% decrease in total share from 1991. Coal had an 80. 8% of the total electricity produced but made a 0.2% increase only from 1991 figures. Electric utilities used 756 million tons of coal in 1991 which is a 1.1% increase from 1990 statistics.

Self-insuring with a single-parent captive
Article Abstract:
Recent trends in market competition led electric utilities to consider the organization of single-parent captive insurance company. This setup, which is already being used by Fortune 1,000 companies, provides a more cost-effective management than a traditional insurance program as it features excellent benefits, such as reduced long-term costs and the ability to harness investment income of loss reserves.
