A host of multinational electronics companies such as Samsung Electronic Company Ltd. (SEC) are moving to the UK to take advantage of the country's qualified workforce and its developed transportation and business infrastructure. SEC's British division is part of a multinational corporate complex that operates 18 plants outside of Korea. European governments are competing to attract multinational electronic company subsidiaries to help revitalize their national economies.

The housewives university

Samsung Electronics Company Ltd. operates a 'Housewives University' in its Samsung Family Centre located in downtown Seoul, South Korea, for the benefit of the wives of Samsung employees. The 3-month courses of study offered by the "university" train women in personal and home care skills such as hair styling and cooking as well as in concrete subjects such as foreign languages, politics, computer studies and economics.

Kindred spirit: a town called Samsung
Article Abstract:
Samsung Electronics Company Ltd.'s Suwon complex in South Korea constitutes a veritable mini-city run for and by Samsung workers. Approximately 21,500 Samsung workers work on the site on any given day, while 6,000 of them actually live in apartments that have been built for them there. The complex also features restaurants, a shopping centre, hospital, library, TV station and soccer field for use by its residents.
