For whose eyes only?
Article Abstract:
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) is tasked with the collection of data from companies involved in the energy sector. An independent agency within the Dept of Energy, the EIA's mission is to collect statistics and issue analyses that improve the public's understanding of energy issues. One point that has been repeatedly raised by utilities regarding the EIA's work is the lack of confidentiality accorded to data reported to the government. In response, the EIA has modified its reporting rules and has agreed to treat data on shareholder-owned utilities as confidential information.
