Global warming policy, energy, and the Chinese economy
Article Abstract:
The threat of global warming has increased pressure on nations everywhere to reduce their emission of greenhouse gases into the environment. One country that is expected to play a major role in greenhouse gas reduction is China, the world's largest producer and consumer of coal, a known greenhouse gas. A dynamic linear programming model of China's economy shows that the country can successfully reduce its consumption of greenhouse gases without hindering its economic development as long as technological changes related to energy conservation and energy displacement are undertaken and clean fuels are made available to the public.
