Predicting the right maintenance
Article Abstract:
Predictive maintenance, or condition-based maintenance, is necessary to maximize the life cycles of power-plant equipment and to boost the overall performance of power plants. Predictive maintenance, which involves an evaluation and an assessment of the needs and conditions of power-plant equipment, is needed to improve the cost-effectiveness of power-plant operations. Predictive maintenance methods, which are increasingly utilized by the utility sector, can help operators prevent equipment downtime, reduce plant-maintenance costs and boost plant efficiency.

Going for the big ones
Article Abstract:
The investor-owned electric utility industry's senior management is expected to face numerous strategic challenges as many steady electric utilities position themselves to become energy growth companies. Many companies are repositioning themselves and changing strategic focus through divestiture, unbundling and spinoffs. The most significant challenge that is being experienced by the industry is supervising the investor relations process and negotiating with an evolving shareholder base in a business and regulatory marketplace that is complex and unstable.
