The performance of bifacial solar cells in prism-coupled compound parabolic concentrators
Article Abstract:
Bifacial solar cell arrays were connected with prism-coupled compound parabolic concentrators and then evaluated in terms of performance. The resultsshowed that optical gains were obtained using simulated symmetrical bifacial arrays and asymmetrical Westinghouse arrays. In the case of the former, gains were observed to be fourfold while threefold gains were seen in the latter case. In addition, the power gains at peak solar intensity were similar to the optical gains when passive thermosyphon cooling was used.

Modeling the thermal process in a shallow solar pond water heater
Article Abstract:
Amathematical model for determining the performance of shallow solar pond water heaters with dark colored water bags was developed. The model utilized a Macintosh computer and Laplace transform to analyze heat balance equations. Themodel was able to determine the maximum temperature and to characterize pond performance during daylight hours.
