Will the fear of water cross the Channel?
Article Abstract:
The completion of the Channel Tunnel may increase the threat of rabies in Great Britain. Great Britain has been free of rabies since 1903 because of its geographic isolation as an island, but the tunnel will eliminate that isolation. Some experts believe that the threat of rabies from the tunnel is no greater than the threat posed by ferries or yachts. Health officials are prepared to deal with the disease if an outbreak occurs.

Measuring marine recreation benefits of water quality improvements by the nested random utility model
Article Abstract:
Recent research has extensively used the random utility model (RUM) to evaluate the benefits that can be derived from water-related recreation activities. The RUM's ability to incorporate the availability of substitute recreation sites is the primary reason for its popularity in cost-benefits analyses of water recreation. However, the use of RUM in analyzing water recreation can stand further improvement.
