Christopher Morris's book 'An Essay on the Modern State' is discussed, with a focus on issues concerning the justification and authority of the state. Morris fails to consider the justification of democracy and its implications for the state's political authority, given the extensive disagreements about justice that exist in modern societies.

A debate on the question of whether holding corporate agents along with individual agents who act on behalf of them should be held responsible for untidiness is presented. Arguments suggest that for any misdeeds the corporate agents and individual agents should be held collectively responsible.
