Leadership: toward new philosophical foundations
Article Abstract:
Classical American pragmatism offers a more plausible philosophical basis for the study of leadership than the long-standing, implicit philosophical perspective. The approach provides a novel philosophical basis for studying self and community. The leadership that emerges from such a set-up is termed as participatory leadership, which integrates appreciable aspects of human nature and the whole humanity. The leader's interaction with the group is dynamic in character, and both undergo constant transformation in the process. The approach circumvents the conflict between self and community.
