Rational cooperation, intention and reconsideration
Article Abstract:
David Gauthier's theory of rational choice is based on the assumption that acting morally entails constraining personal motives, represented generally by the concept, 'contractarian desires.' However, Gauthier's principles, Straightforward Cooperation which refers to the rationality of an intention to follow an act which is expected to produce the best result and Apocalyptic Deterrence which refers to the rationality of actions resulting from the intention to have the best result, were contradicted with the analysis that a historical approach to rationality will be appropriate.
