The use of reproductive technologies in selecting the sexual orientation, the race, and the sex of children
Article Abstract:
The article responds to those in this issue on genetic sex determination by Edward Stein, Jonathan Berkowitz and Jack Snyder and argues that from the parents' point of view, society's pervasive racism and sexism, which they do not share, are circumstances beyond their control and are like natural laws which they consider in making their choices. Berkowitz, Snyder , and Stein forget the interest of the children who will be born, also an important ethical consideration.

Choosing the sexual orientation of children
Article Abstract:
The article considers the moral and legal aspects of genetic sex determination. It argues that the availability of these procedures contributes to discrimination against homo- and bisexuals and undermines maintaining a just society, a key factor in deciding whether genetic technologies should be developed and whether their use is morally acceptable.

Racism and sexism in medically assisted conception
Article Abstract:
The article argues that genetic sex determination reflects parents' anticipation of stereotypical gender based behavior and to place a value on gender by preferring one sex over another, an emphasis which conflicts with society's goals urging individuals to ignore gender. Thus, genetic sex determination exemplifies sexism in its most blatant form.
